Redruth is home to a wonderful range of green spaces, from tucked-away gardens to wide-open parks. These spaces belong to the whole community, and everyone is welcome to enjoy them.

Redruth Town Council looks after several parks, gardens and play areas across the town.

Parks & Green SpacesSt Rumon's Gardens
St Rumon's Gardens is a peaceful garden tucked away from the high street, with hanging floral baskets, park benches and a small stage for local performances.
St Rumon's Gardens sits on the site of a 15th century chapel, named after a 6th century saint. The chapel was cleared in the mid-19th century, and St Rumon's Hall was built in its place. Over the years, the site has served as an entertainment hall, a cinema, and a bingo hall - the remains of which can still stand and can be seen in the garden.

East End Park
East End Park is a wide, open space on Drump Road, and is home to Redruth's skate park. The skate park opened in 2021, following a local campaign lobbying for this, and is open to skateboarders, rollerbladers and BMX riders of all abilities.
The park is also home to community events such as the annual Youth Fest, and there's plenty of room to play, walk or sit in the sunshine. Its wildflower areas are home to hedgehogs, and the Council is planning further improvements to the park's paths and play equipment.

Plain-an-Gwarry Play Area
Plain-an-Gwarry Play Area sits next to the Community Centre, with play equipment and open space for children to enjoy. The park's roundabout is due to be replaced, and the Council is planning further improvements to the site.
The name comes from the Cornish for "playing place". A plain-an-gwarry was a type of round medieval amphitheatre - once common across West Cornwall between the 14th and 16th centuries - and used for sports, gatherings and performances. Only two survive in full today, at Perran Round in Perranzabuloe and in St Just.

Strawberry Fields
Strawberry Fields was bought by Redruth Town Council from Cornwall Council, and has previously served as a school field and cricket ground. The Council would like to improve on the sports facilities, play areas, biodiversity and animal habitats, making this space one that the whole community can enjoy.
According to local rumour, the ruins of an old pavilion lie buried beneath the field - one which the Facilities Team hopes to uncover in time.

Other ways we look after Redruth’s outdoor spaces
Alongside its parks, the Council maintains a range of other spaces and features that help Redruth stay green and look at its best.
Footpaths and Verges
The Facilities Team looks after nearly 30km of footpaths around the town, under the Local Partnership Scheme with Cornwall Council. Footpaths are a shared responsibility between the two councils, and are home to deer, foxes, woodpeckers, bats, butterflies and dragonflies. Keep an eye out for these as you walk around the town and surrounding areas.
Verges are also a shared responsibility with Cornwall Council.
Bus Shelters
The Council maintains Redruth’s bus shelters, with the exception of the one near Tesco. The Council is currently looking into using these shelters for advertising, which can help us to promote our own events and generate advertising revenue from other organisations.
Flower Planters
Flower planters and hanging baskets, made from reclaimed timber, help keep Redruth looking colourful throughout the year. Two of the planters are made from reclaimed boats, including one at Mount Ambrose, which was redesigned and planted by children from Treleigh School’s Community Club in 2024.
Polytunnel
In 2025, the Council acquired a second-hand polytunnel, previously used by Truro City Council’s plant nursery. The Facilities Team has collected wild seeds from local footpaths, and planted trees in partnership with Cornish Orchards and Forest for Cornwall. Over 2,000 plants have been propagated so far, and used across the Council’s sites.

Parks maintained by Cornwall Council
Not every green space in Redruth is looked after by the Town Council. Fairfield Park, Trefusis Park, Victoria Park and Treskerby Park are maintained by Cornwall Council, which is responsible for a number of the town’s parks and open spaces.
Fairfield Park
A spacious park off West End, with a play area, a zipline, and space for children and dogs to run and play.
Trefusis Park
A park off Albany Road with a running track, sports court and exercise equipment, popular with dog walkers and those keeping fit outdoors.
Victoria Park
A park with vibrant flower beds, home to Redruth Bowls Club and two tennis courts, as well as a war memorial maintained by Cornwall Council.
Treskerby Park
A play area with a bug hotel built by children from Treleigh School, offering space to play and explore.

Other places to enjoy in Redruth
Gwealan Tops Adventure Playground
Found on School Lane, Gwealan Tops is Cornwall’s only staffed adventure playground, and it is completely free to visit. Children can climb, build, explore and play with qualified staff on hand across the playground, so parents can relax while their children have fun and build their confidence.
There’s always something going on, from a maths club and a science club to a youth club, free tea-time meals on certain days, and a summer holiday playscheme. It’s also open after school during term time, making it a favourite with families across Redruth. This is run by an independent charity, and is totally unique in this area.
