Redruth Town Council Launches Phase 1 of Free Town Wi-Fi

Projects

Visitors and shoppers to Redruth town centre can now get online with the introduction of free town wi-fi.   The first phases of the project will see users able to connect in central areas of Redruth, including Fore Street, West End, Green Lane, part of Upper Fore Street.

A one-time registration will enable visitors to get connected ,access information of “what’s on” in the town centre to enhance the visitor experience.

The scheme has been introduced as part of a wider infrastructure programme following conversations with the public and businesses who expressed a need for improved digital connectivity.  The free wi-fi scheme also includes a Geosense footfall sensor that will capture important data that can be used to shape future events and strategies.

‘We hope that the first phase of the Town Centre Wi-Fi will support all those accessing the town, allowing them to find out more about the wonderful things Redruth has to offer.’ Cllr Alison Biscoe, Redruth Town Mayor.

‘The system  will provide important new data and information that can be used to help shape events, festivals and promotions. Hopefully, we can use the data to help support local businesses, events and town centre activity, and to stimulate economic growth.’ Charlotte Williams, Town Clerk.

The free town centre Wi-Fi project has received £22,500 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, allocated by Cornwall Council’s Good Growth Programme. Redruth Town Council has received a total of £128,000  to deliver a wide range of regeneration projects including the Market Hall and Market Way, public toilets, signage, CCTV cameras and boosted wi-fi in key Council venues.
