Nominate Heroes who make Redruth a better place

Community

The people of Redruth are being urged to nominate unsung stars who make a massive difference to others’ lives in and around the town.

With time running out to get nominations in, a wide range of categories is open for this year’s Specsavers’ Redruth Local Hero Awards and Redruth’s Annual Town Meeting, with organisers keen to receive details about anyone who has helped to make the community a better place to live.

Lucy Eva, director at the town’s Specsavers store, is among the lead sponsors of the popular annual event.

She says: ‘These awards are really important for Redruth. They’re an opportunity to celebrate those people whose selfless efforts can often go unnoticed by many, but without them, our community wouldn’t be the same.

‘We want to hear about those who volunteer their time to good causes or support local businesses to help them prosper.

‘Alternatively, we want to hear about good neighbours who help others in their street, or about people who play a key part in a community project.

‘Age is no barrier to these awards. We have a Young Hero of the Year award, but we want to hear about anyone of any age for any of the categories.’

This year’s entrants can be nominated in the following categories.

  • Volunteer Hero of the Year
  • Best Community Project
  • Young Hero of the Year (up to 25 years old)
  • Green Hero or Heroes of the Year
  • Best New Local Business

Cllr Alison Biscoe, Redruth Town Mayor, says: ‘We are extremely thankful to Specsavers Redruth and all the other local businesses who are generously sponsoring this year’s awards programme.

‘Thanks to their support, we will be able to celebrate even more deserving members of our community at our awards ceremony and Annual Town Meeting hosted at the Penventon Park Hotel on Wednesday, 1st July. We have already received some fantastic nominations and are eagerly looking forward to receiving even more.’

Lucy adds: ‘We all know that Redruth is a wonderful place, but let’s not forget those who make it so amazing.

‘By nominating people for an award, you are showing how much you and others appreciate their hard work and the difference they make to our town.

‘So please do tell us about their story and about the sacrifices they make all the time to raise the spirits of others in the town.’
